God gave us the whole Bible

It is important for Christians to remember that God gave us the whole Bible (Old and New Testament) for a reason.  It was given in the sequence it is in for a purpose (Old Testament – Law and Prophets then the New Testament).  If we neglect the Old Testament because we believe that the New Testament has made it now useless, we fall into all kinds of problems in accurately understanding what God is truly saying to us.  The New Testament was written through the lens of the Old Testament, therefore, if we neglect the Old Testament then we severely alter our interpretation of what is being said in the New Testament.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 attests to the usefulness of the entire Bible for equipping the child of God.  Even Proverbs 30:5-6 embraces all of God’s word and Psalm 119 (the longest Psalm in the Bible) continually sings of its vital role in the life of God’s children.  Revelation 22:18-19 and Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32 warn about adding or taking away any word from God’s revelation to us.  The entire Bible (God’s revelation/His word) keeps us in His mercy and His love.  He gave all of it to us for a reason.  This is where we find the truth.  None of it was a mistake nor was it to be abolished – even by the Christ.  Rather Jesus came to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17).  God’s word is the treasure map to His riches (most vividly seen in Christ).  So what would happen if we cut out huge chunks of any treasure map?  Do we not then make it extremely difficult for us to follow it and understand it correctly?  We are no doubt saved by grace through faith and not by our own works but there is still much to learn in the Old Testament that is not covered in the New Testament.  If we are willing to follow the New Testament and it was written from the Old Testament then we should absolutely also be as familiar with the Old Testament.  It serves as the foundation to the New Revelation and Good News proclaimed regarding the Christ.  It is essential to see Scripture in its context and in its entirety.  Apart from this, it can be used deceptively.  What things in your life have been selectively chosen and rearranged by others in  a way to deceive from the truth?   Is it not important to know the whole story so to know the truth?
